Frogtown

It was such a beautiful day today that we just had to go for a ride with Scout, of course. We drove down a country road we had never been down before. We saw old houses, potteries, fields of cows and goats (Scout loves looking at them and cries when she sees them). We passed a field with 2 horses laying on the ground. They jumped up when we stopped, thank God they were only taking a nap. Driving a bit further, we came across "Frogtown". Immediately, I thought of the little frogs that we made in a class together at "Linderella's Quilt Shop". Here's a picture of the first frog I ever made for a dear friend and neighbor down the street.

Pollyanna Pillows

Today I launched my very first ETSY shoppe, Pollyanna Pillows! My sisters have encouraged me for years to start a blog and sew pillows, since I love to sew so much! Both of my sisters have blogs and ETSY shoppes and I hope you follow the links to see them both, you'll be happy that you did! My sister Karen has developed my blog and created my ETSY shoppe.
I think it's funny that the first pillows that are listed are heart shaped and near Valentine's Day since the very first pillow I made was a heart shaped pillow for my Grandmother who had been in the hospital on Valetnine's day. I started sewing as a kid and since I didn't have a sewing machine, I sewed everything by hand. When I married my husband, my mother-in-law gave me her very first ELNA sewing machine. She had bought it for herself back in the 50's to sew my sister-in-law and my husband some baby clothes. She took such good care of it. I have the original case, the instruction manual, even the original tools and sewing booklets. I love sewing with it and I think of her everytime I take it out of the closet. I not only sew pillows, using it, I love making quilts, too! Last year, I made a quilt to celebrate my husband's Aunt Sylvia who turned 100 last November! It featured many photos from her as a child through the years. Once I completed the marriage of the back and front, I sent it to my sister-in-law, Jan in the black hills of South Dakota. She is a quilter and has a long-armed quilting machine. She completed the quilting process and did a fabulous job! So, when I presented this heirloom quilt to Aunt Sylvia, I was able to say that it was made by me, my mother-in-law, Anne and my sister-in-law, Jan. Sadly, Sylvia passed away six months later, but her goal was always to live to 100 so she could have a fabulous party in Vegas with an accordian player, and so she did! It was a fabulous party with all of her 150 guests, accordian player and a proclamation from the Mayor of Las Vegas who declared Sylvia's birthday as Sylvia Hadlock Day and we had the document to prove it. At least she was able to blanket herself with all of the wonderful memories throughout her life everyday for six months. Now, that quilt has been passed down to her neice, Jane who was gracious enough to provide me with all of the amazing pictures of Sylvia's life.

Bran Muffins

We woke up to a beautiful snowy day and I decided to bake some bran muffins. Instead of just the molasses, white sugar and raisins, my husband suggested to add a some honey, brown sugar and dates. They were moist, wonderful and perfect with a cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee. It's perfect that my husband loves honey since I love bees! It's also perfect that they are made of honey and dates and tomorrow is Valentine's Day! Please remember to BEE Happy!

Let the Games Begin...

I am a huge football fan and the only thing that is keeping me from feeling the frustration of waiting until the next preseason is the start of the OLYMPICS! We watched the opening ceremonies and they were truly amazing, to say the least! Although it is sad to hear about the passing of a talented 21 year old luge athlete, it was touching to see that the entire world held a moment of peace and silence, just for him. Watching the luge events will truly take on a different meaning and I'm sure all countries will be hoping in their hearts for his Georgian teammates to take home the medals in his honor.

Superbowl Sunday

Well, it's Superbowl Sunday and I hope that the Colts beat the Saints! You see, I believe that it was truly supposed to be the Colts vs. the Vikings but instead the Saints got in there. If you look at the statistics of that playoff game of the Vikings against the Saints, the Vikings were truly the better team! I didn't like the way the Saints were playing that day and in my mind they played, dirty. They said their motto for that day was to kill the beast, you had to kill the head and the body will fall. I'm all for letting players play but when they are trying to injure a legendary quarterback and one of those players used to play alongside him with the Packers, that was unbelieveable! I know there are bad calls by ref's every Sunday, but there were so many bad calls or no calls in favor of the Saints, it drove me crazy! To think that Brett might end his career with a "pick" also kills me. People seem to think that he lost the game, but go back and watch that game, that was truly a "team" effort and he played much better than that team that day. Many players either dropped the ball, caused fumbles and the defense definitely didn't play the way they killed the Cowboys (my favorite team, by the way) the week before and the icing on the cake was the call that one of the coaches made that led up to having 12 men in the huddle, that was why they lost and NOT because of Brett!!!
I sure hope that he comes back next year but ONLY if the team stays in tact and he is healthy! I know he's 40 and he has accomplished everything and more than any football player would ever want to accomplish! I already told my husband that when Brett has the honor of being inducted into the Hall of Fame in Canton, we're there!!!
That's my opinion but what do I know about football, I'm just a girl...
